tw workshop: new tees (and dresses) lookbook

Thursday, May 9th, 2013

I recently got to shoot a second lookbook for the brilliantly talented Tracy Wilkinson (see the first one here). She expanded her empire with a bunch of new tees in different cuts and colors and also the easiest breeziest dresses that I can’t wait to live in all summer.

We had such a fun time walking around the neighborhood and shooting. Our model, the beautiful Laura Taylor is also a super talented photographer and was a total dream to shoot.

You can find Tracy this weekend at Shopclass, she’s the guest artist for May.

You can also buy tees + dresses + pots online!

new work: monroe workshop

Wednesday, April 24th, 2013

Last year I had the pleasure of working with Matt Monroe and his lovely wife, Jen. We shot Matt’s entire line of handcrafted furniture in their amazing Atwater workshop. He takes so much pride in his work that it more than borders on perfectionism, in the best possible way. His work is impeccable, grand and beautiful. Plus everything is made in LA. My favorites are the Seawall coffee table, the Independence Desk and the Haverhill Rocker. A special thanks to the talented Sarah Rainwater, who did all of their graphic design, for introducing us!

See all the photos and the whole line of furniture on the Monroe Workshop site. And follow them on instagram.

april in los angeles + playlist

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013

It’s April in Los Angeles. Life is pretty good, if a little busy. These two shots are from one of the homes I shot last week for Barbara Bestor (dreams are happening). All the houses were on the east side, this one on a hill in Silver Lake with citrus trees going crazy. And the other picture? Well that’s Michelle Pullman, my assistant, my friend, a great photographer, the strongest person I know. I wouldn’t be able to do half the stuff I do without her. So that’s her, about 8 feet behind me minding my tether. Thanks Michelle!

I’m heading up to San Francisco for the next week for a handful of shoots. Follow me on instagram for updates on the road.

And for fun, I’ve started making playlists of what I listen to the most in a month. It’s partly to help differentiate the months from one another and it also forces me to listen to new things. This is the music that got me through March.

new work: braid lookbook

Thursday, March 28th, 2013

As I hinted a couple weeks ago, I recently collaborated with my friend, and braid maven, Alison Brislin on a braid lookbook! We got to work with the beautiful and enigmatic Cheryl Nichols (look at this beauty) as our braid model for the day in an awesome location in Mt Washington. It was refreshing to step outside of what I usually shoot, take the camera off the tripod and have some fun. Special thanks to my favorite Kate Miss for designing the lookbook and generally being awesome.

Ali is available for private braid bookings (weddings, bat mitzvahs, sleepovers, braid bars, etc). You can learn more and book her here (here are some beautiful tutorials!). You can also follow her instagram here. Here are some other braids that have happened.

(Follow me on instagram if you don’t already!)

on the internet

Friday, March 22nd, 2013

I’m still catching up from yet another road trip (this time back out to Joshua Tree for a camping trip that did not include the internet). I came home to find that quite a few recent shoots all hit the internet at once. Wanted to share some highlights before I forget!

I love shooting for Remodelista because I so often get to cover the places I go in real life. This time I shot Cortez, one of my favorite local restaurants. See the whole post here.

I was honored (and excited) to shoot a behind the scenes portrait of my friend and hero Sharon Montrose. Not only did I get to see her in action with baby animals, but I also had the pleasure of meeting Joanna from Cup of Jo. Check out the whole behind the scenes profile, right here. (I also shot this project with Sharon.)

These photos I shot of the workspace of wedding superstars Bash, Please got a second wind over on Style Me Pretty.

Emily Henderson and I have done a lot of shoots together and getting to shoot her bedroom redesign was one of the most fun: lots of laughs and lots of cat lady talk. Em posted the full tour on her blog, you can also see it on Apartment Therapy.

Otherwild recently moved into my neighborhood and I was so happy to get a chance to cover it for Pitchfork’s Journal, Nothing Major. They carry a great selection of locally made goods plus fun stuff from Portland and beyond. Now they’re right here on Echo Park Ave. (P.S. that poster is one of my favorites).

I have more to share, but this will have to do for the weekend!

P.S. I’ve been listening to this song and this song nonstop.

the 5

Thursday, March 7th, 2013

This year is becoming the year of the road trip and I’m not complaining. A quick jaunt up the 5 this past weekend to San Francisco yielded miles and miles and miles of blossoming trees at sunset. Couldn’t have been more beautiful.

Highlights lacking photo evidence: starting our book club book, eating breakfast at st. francis where they have a bougainvillea cocktail (that I didn’t try but still…), checked out the new muji store, ate dinner at bar agricole (where everything is amazing and you have to have their old fashioned served in the thinnest most delicate glass you’ve ever seen) and saw a great show. Also I want to thank the future for allowing me to stream an episode of Nashville from the back of a moving vehicle on the 5 freeway onto my phone in present day time.

braids + intentions

Thursday, March 7th, 2013

One of my intentions for the new year was to keep going down my path of shooting interiors and architecture, refine my process, get better, keep going. Another one was to push myself ever so slightly in new directions that might scare me a little. So I’ve been shooting things that move. Like people. And now I’m going to share a little. I’m really proud of work that I shot recently for Alison Brislin and her amazing braids. I’ll reveal the full shoot soon, but for now, it’s pretty fun to see one of the shots in her promo material (designed by Kate Miss) that she’ll be using at this weekend’s Cream Event. (Also I’ll be there as a braid model, if you’re there please say hello! This is me.)

(thanks to Kate Miss for the photo, from her instagram)

la is the best place

Monday, February 4th, 2013

After a lot of traveling and the flu, I arrive back at the same resting place; los angeles is the best place.

Outtakes from a recent NY Times shoot are up top–a mid century gem in encino, a couple photos from a party this past weekend at my favorite house (I even got dressed up for it), and a couple things I picked up at this weekend’s LA Art Book Fair which was enormously overwhelming and inspiring since I’m thinking about printing things that you can hold in your hand and put on your wall. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ye Rink Mok and thought the Book Stand booth was really stellar.

It’s Monday and I am editing 4 shoots that happened last week (they all pushed me into new territory and I’m really excited about them) and listening to this song on repeat and these half hour music podcasts.

I instagrammed some pretty sweet views from last week’s shoots since I can’t share those images yet.

Happy February.

animal print shop american buffalo print

Thursday, December 6th, 2012

Have you seen the new grown up print from Sharon Montrose and the Animal Print Shop?

When I was shooting the nurseries, we also all jumped over to Morgan’s and used her amazing house as a set for this GIANT and amazing buffalo print.

Great example of how Sharon’s prints aren’t just for nurseries. I have the baby camel in my bedroom and also love the cougar close up and the vulture. If you’re not ready to go big, you can buy all the prints, including the american bufallo in a smaller version.

tw tee shirts + store.LA

Tuesday, November 27th, 2012

Recently had the pleasure of shooting with Tracy Wilkinson in my favorite house that has ever existed. Tracy just launched a new online shop with Simon Story where they sell the things they make (Simon’s speakers are getting a lot of traction).

The new shop sells Tracy’s great hanging and regular pots and also her newly launched line of tee shirts (long sleeve coming soon). I shot the lovely Nathalie in the white short sleeve and muscle tee versions. It was a hot day. We ate cupcakes and had fun. Love these images.

Find all of Tracy’s stuff right here.

p.s. I’m wearing a long sleeve one right now and never want to take it off.
