weekend moments

Monday, May 6th, 2013

Spending a little more time being quiet at home.

My happy begonia next to the kitchen window (and clean dishes), my new Sharon Mann mug, the bright yellow ranunculas on my desk (that the cat likes to chew).

lovely long weekend

Monday, July 9th, 2012

Lovely long weekend of fireworks, bbq’s, picnics, painting the kitchen, thoughtful flowers, bougainvillea, polaroids (I’m playing around with this impossible project film and my sx-70), not making the bed, moving rugs around the house, watering the plants, watching the light move around, instagramming and falling more in love with echo park in the summertime.

my kitchen

Monday, March 19th, 2012

Took advantage of the rainy weather and spent a little bit of time nesting this weekend. I puttered around rearranging tiny moments in the kitchen and putting things away. I also hung my other favorite tw pottery and added a purple basil plant to it for springtime. I’ve lived here for a little over a year and feel like I’m only just embracing it as home. It’s exciting and also, in a weird way, a loss. It seems it takes a long time to let go.

(Have you seen Tracy’s house? (From TW Pottery))

new stuff

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Here’s the stuff I scored at the big sale (did you go, were you too shy to say hello? some people said hello (hi Elsie, hi David John!)). The sconces I will paint and try out by my bed. The paintings…we will see. I’m a sucker for landscapes that have mountains so it will need to be very visible. And the leaves, well I was sold when I saw this.

A drawing from 1972 that I found with Emily who is the queen of thrifting. She actually found 3 of them and was nice enough to let me buy one of them. I am seriously grateful. It was $9. Now where will it go?

On loan to me is this navajo rug from my mom. I have already spilled wine on it. Oops. Thanks Mom!

Not really new, but I replanted this old Russel Wright dish with some purpley grey succulents and everyone is much happier. (Find new Russel Wright wares through Bauer).

I am also vowing to take better care of my plants. They have been neglected.

Any springtime resolutions out there?

painting the bedroom

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

I may have mentioned when I moved into this place how much I couldn’t stand the color the bedroom was painted. A weird ochre color that made everything else in the room take on a brown drab tone (you can see it sort of here). Well I only finally got around to it 5 months later. I settled on a third color that isn’t pictured, but *surprise* it’s grey! I don’t think I’m capable of painting the walls an actual color.

Here’s the palette I’m considering: Love the blues and greens in this awesome paint by numbers kittens painting I thrifted recently and the Commune bag I picked up at westweek.

I’m also considering epic, giant plants, or perhaps a hanging fern per Morgan’s suggestion. Or some Macrame. I’ll reveal things once I get a little bit further!

elle decor + frog chair

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

wow, what a nice surprise to be featured on elle decor’s design insider’s weekly finds! Thanks, Emma at marion house book for the shout out! And just for you, here is the unveiling of the lalanne crapaud in my living room. Sure, it’s a little tight, but I think it’s working.

living room

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

This is basically to prove that I got a couch (from HD buttercup, on sale!) and that I have something that looks like a living room (different from the last photos I shared). Please don’t judge me for not having art on that wall by the couch and also for not really having the pillow situation figured out. Please judge me (favorably) for the awesome cat painting I picked up recently for $2.

the stove debacle is over

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

So, those of you following me on twitter are up to date on the whole stove situation. But for everyone else I thought I’d cathartically post about it. The stove that was here didn’t have a functional oven, so obviously that wasn’t going to work long term. I found a killer deal on a larger O’Keefe and Merrit stove on craigslist (thank you craigslist) and all was well with the world. Until everything that could go wrong did. I won’t go into detail, but it took 2 movers, 4 days, 2 trips to the hardware store, 2 plus sized magic erasers, my dad, my landlord and my somewhat limited patience to actually have the stove in place and functional. And now it’s all mine.

It’s all just in time for my forays into bread baking and my somewhat uncontrollable craving for the best chocolate chip cookies ever.

butterfly chairs + golden light

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Did I mention that the living room gets flooded with light in the afternoon? Here’s what it looked like the other day, before I got the couch. The butterfly chairs I got off of craigslist, thanks to Morgan. I got custom covers from Circa 50 in natural canvas. (When people come over, they’re sort of afraid to sit in them. But they are ridiculously comfortable; like sitting in a hammock). The little marble table I found at Revival for $20 (I bought a set) and plan to paint or change the hideous base. Cowhide: craigslist.

The whole space is already totally different now because the couch went where the table is, but for a moment it was really nice like this. Made me realize that you can live without a sofa when you don’t entertain often and, instead, sit at a table on a computer most of the day.

good morning

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

Morning is my favorite time. If I could get everything done by 11:30am I would be happy. As it is, I think I get 80% of my day done by then, and then the rest is dragged out.

Eggs, tortillas, avocado and some salsa. This is breakfast every morning.
