Refreshed Interiors

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Wow, I haven’t had such a refreshing weekend in a long time. It somehow felt really long and I could luxuriate in hanging out with family, getting some work done, celebrating fathers day and generally feeling ready for what is sure to be a crazy week at Dwell on Design.

I also ran across this great blog that isn’t in English (Swedish is what I’m guessing and I’m too lazy to google translate it). But I love the two versions of this room with that amazing fireplace. Both are crisp and modern but they have such different feels. Love them both. The blog, highway design is a great find, full of inspiring interiors, almost like a little sister to emma’s designblogg.

Won’t be blogging much this week, but follow me on twitter for some behind the scenes looks at the Dwell on Design Install.

Up in the air somewhere

Impossibly delicate dishware and ceramics. I love that pop of yellow (it’s rubber!) and anything that’s paper thin and then gold leafed. See all this and more up in the air somewhere.

Le Petit Atelier de Paris

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

I’m working on a little Paris Guide to augment the one that I put together a while ago. In the meantime I just had to share one of the stores that I’ve talked about but finally got to go to: Le Petit Atelier de Paris. It’s a design studio run by a couple who make the loveliest everyday objects like cups, bowls and vases. Everything is delicate, white, sweet and simple. In short, everything that makes me swoon. I walked away with a couple of their ceramic duralex shaped cups.

They’re located in the Marais but off the beaten path so it took me a little walking to figure out exactly where they were. The store was quiet and they have it lit darkly so it feels a little bit like a church when you enter. Then this happy dog meets you and, if you’re me, you’re immediately charmed and convinced that this is the highlight of your trip to Paris.

Then they wrap up your purchases like this and it’s just too perfect. I also just popped over to their site and noticed that they keep up a little blog, and now I want them to adopt me so that I can hang out with them all the time.

Because I can, I am going to post a million and one pictures of the most desirable rentals I have laid eyes on.

Yeah, that was all one house in England, for rent..

Or you could stay in one of these instead:

I already own this credenza and if anyone in los angeles knows where the hell I can find a mirror like this for less than a small fortune, dear god, please tell me. It will make me happy. I will look at it and I will say: love.

Bedroom Redirect

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

I’m trying out white and even the dreaded orange in my bedroom. I like it but I know I’ll keep messing with it. Maybe the lamps are the problem.

Here it is in its last incarnation:

And in its original incarnation (I didn’t realize how spare I had it, and how short my quilt was)

Here are some images that I couldn’t pass up. I’m still on vacation so more later…

New Thrift Finds from Paper Pony

Raya’s House From Paper Pony (via Design Sponge

This kitchen vignette is exactly the inspiration I need. I’ve been looking for better ways to keep white as the strongest color in a room without it looking stark or sterile or entirely missing color. This nails it.

Lotus Lamp on ebay via More ways to Waste Time
Love this image because I’ve somehow ended up with a lot of this vintage/retro-y kind of gold (a mirror, a screen, these flower decorative wall things) but have been having trouble keeping them from looking too thrift store. It looks like white is one part of the answer…

Tilt Shift photography via Black Eiffel

I am obsessed with miniatures and was shocked (shocked!) that these are not models, it’s the real deal. Magic’s in the photography baby…
